Google Chrome updated to a new version, patched with dangerous zero-day vulnerabilities


Google has just suddenly released a new update for Chrome. Chrome version 86.0.4240.111 just released fixes 5 security vulnerabilities, one of which is a dangerous zero-day vulnerability that is actively exploited by hackers.

"Project Zero has detected and reported a dangerous zero-day vulnerability that is being actively exploited on FreeType. Hackers are using this vulnerability to attack Chrome," said Ben Hawkes, the application's technical lead. Project Zero security researcher shared by Google. "Although we currently only see hacker attacks on Chrome, but FreeType users should also update to the latest version FreeType 2.10.4 to fix."

Google only describes CVE-2020-15999 as a very dangerous vulnerability, not sharing what hackers will do if exploiting this vulnerability.

Besides, 4 other vulnerabilities in Chrome are also fixed in update 86.0.4240.111. These vulnerabilities bear the number CVE-2020-16000, CVE-2020-16001, CVE-2020-16002 and CVE-2020-16003 with moderate level of danger.
